NOTE: ( Shala updates below my story!!!)
I hope you are doing really well and have enjoyed and made the most of the sun in Innsbruck or while on holidays! Lucas and i have just returned from an epic sailing journey in Croatia with the kids. It was my first ever sailing experience and I was full of anticipation before leaving….would I be ok? Would I be sea sick? How would I cope with the small space? Etc…and etc. Most importantly I was going with an open mind, with the intention to enjoy it and keep my inner Zen NO MATTER WHAT occurred.
And to be honest, I did totally enjoy myself. Every moment. Even those squishy moments in the pokey toilet, cooking in the old tiny kitchen while waves were moving the boat from side to side, getting stranded for half a day while the motor got fixed, waiting and wishing for wind, and having near constant wet feet… I enjoyed ALL the ups (mostly ups!) and the challenges. I believe it was because I knew it was only for 2 weeks and we can all put up with less creature comforts for that long , right? Plus it was a huge bonus that I didn´t get sea sick! I did prepare myself well incase the unfortunate seasickness hit me….better to be prepared and not need it, than not have it and wish I did!
My favourite moments were waking up for early 7 am swims, taking late night swims, playing cards every day ( Watten…. You know this card game ?), yoga on the SUP, handling the steering wheel in 7 knot winds, eating meals together, jumping and diving into the water from the boat, time to read novels (totally non yoga related), SUN on my skin (after the second day I respected the heat more and remembered to use my mineral sun lotion! – my Australian skin has definitely become more Austrian !!!)
As always, one comes home from holidays totally refreshed and ready (???) to get back into every day life. And even though our holiday was somehow always busy (for there is always something to do on the boat), we still feel totally satisfied with these 2 weeks together. In all honesty I love my holidays with my family. We all get along extremely well and even though the boat was small, all of 9 metres long, we never argued or ´had enough of each other´. We laughed a lot and supported each other from start to finish. And while this may sound like boasting, it´s not. It´s just me sharing my feelings with YOU.
Every day, every moment is a chance to Live your yoga practice… sharing, caring, loving, accepting, letting go, letting in, breathing out. We don´t have to throw ourselves into extreme circumstances to see how wise we have become, or how far we still have to go along this spiritual journey, but small little steps do help us grow and eventually you may find that you can handle challenging things with greater ease. Trust me…I NEVER thought i´d step my foot onto a sailing boat for 2 whole weeks and actually get through them with a near constant smile on my face! It takes preparation, practice, trust, and willingness to choose the adventurous, the unknown, the `No way in hell am I ever gonna do this´ kind of thing.
What adventures have you had lately?…. The ones you never, ever thought you would actually do in your life because it was too scary, too intense, too confined, too this, too that? And how did you feel afterwards? Did you survive? Did you feel invincible? Did you feel adventurous? Next time, when you hear yourself say , `No way will I ever do that!!´ …. Just pause a moment… you do only have this one life in this current body. Take a leap of faith and try it anyways… you might just surprise yourself and wind up loving it!
Here´s to many more journeys for all of us!
