Dear Yogis,
Welcome into 2023!!! There is nothing like the shift into a new year to reassess things in your life and decide to make changes where necessary. It´s a chance to
leave things behind which keep you stuck in the past and really make the decision to move forward with less baggage in your life. Between the busyness of mum being here, christmas preparations and last events at the shala it was challenging to have the quiet space to reflect upon what i needed to do to make this shift a conscious one. However, the last few days have been somewhat more quiet and it gave me the perfect time to pause, reflect and write down my thoughts. It brought me to a place where now my whole body feels ready to invite 2023 in.
How are you? Have you had this pause - time to reflect about 2022 and get ready for 2023 ? Do you spend time contemplating or journaling your thoughts, your wishes, what you would like to manifest in the new year? Or is there another ritual you love to do each year? Of course we do not always need to DO something, or celebrate anything, but it can certainly support your spiritual journey. Patanjali (who layed out the yogic path with the Yoga Sutras) suggests having time to create an intention and time to reflect as an important part of your practice. It will help you settle and calm your mind and give you motivation to stay true to the path.
Growing up i never liked New Years...it was loud and noisy. As i experienced that as a child, my adult self brought that energy into each turn of the year. My old belief that it was (only) loud and noisy kept me from enjoying the moment - whereever i may have been. Upon reflection i realised i could let go of that limited belief and consciously turn New Years into anything i wanted it to be. I have since welcomed this time as a celebration - a time to get together with family, friends, a time to collect my thoughts, let go off the past and welcome freshness and the new into my life. I now welcome optimism and joy with each turning of the new year. I hope this little story helps you too to feel optimistic and joyous into 2023.
I (we - all teachers) are looking forward to seeing you at the shala this year. As we say goodbye to Liz, we will be welcoming new teachers to the shala. I hope you will take the opportunity to get to know them as they introduce themselves and their teachings. I feel excited as every teacher has something special to offer.
With this i leave you with some inspiring words from @LawofAttraction for 2023:
- do the things you love more often
- Let go of people or situations that drain you
- sometimes you need to get uncomfortable to get comfortable
- Whereever your attention goes your energy flows
- If you change your mindset you will change your life
With love always,
Kira
